Innocent Igiehon has been working as a Stage Door Receptionist at Leeds Heritage Theatres since late 2025, having previously served in Front of House security since 2015. His role involves managing the busy flow of people entering and leaving the theatre, ensuring a welcoming and safe environment for all.
A Day in the Life at Leeds Heritage Theatres
Innocent describes his workdays as busy, particularly at the start and end of performances when many people arrive or depart. His responsibilities include signing in staff and visitors and maintaining safety and hospitality throughout the day.
Community Engagement Beyond the Theatre
Outside of his theatre role, Innocent is actively involved in community work, running a community centre that provides food support to those affected by the cost of living crisis. He operates from two locations in Leeds, including an office in Richmond Hill and a weekly meeting space at Involve in Hunslet.
- Provides food parcels to less privileged individuals
- Hosts weekly gatherings for community members to discuss various topics
- Invites guest speakers on mental health, wellbeing, and job support
- Offers education on health inequalities and access to healthcare services
Innocent also has a background in politics, having served as a councillor representing workers and addressing workplace issues.
Supporting Students and Promoting Inclusivity
Innocent mentors African students studying in Leeds through bi-weekly citizenship sessions. These meetings aim to help students understand local culture, navigate financial and housing challenges, and reduce stress and depression.
He is standing as a candidate in local elections, hoping to serve as a role model and advocate for the Black community in Leeds. His goal is to encourage hard work and leadership among young people.
Views on Leeds and Personal Reflections
Having lived in Leeds for over 30 years, Innocent appreciates the city’s growth and vibrancy. He has resided in Beeston for 20 years, describing it as a welcoming and friendly neighbourhood. He highlights Leeds as a city where families can thrive, noting that his own children have pursued higher education locally and beyond.
His favourite venue within Leeds Heritage Theatres is The Grand, where he enjoys socialising and meeting people as part of his role.
