Residents urged to participate in local council vote

Voters across Leeds are being encouraged to take part in the upcoming Leeds City Council election, scheduled for Thursday 7 May 2026. Polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm to allow residents to cast their votes in person.

Polling station details and voter ID requirements

Anyone unsure of their designated polling station can find this information online at Where Do I Vote?. Voters attending in person must bring an accepted form of photo identification, which will be checked upon arrival. Expired ID is acceptable provided the voter is still recognisable from the photograph.

Accepted forms of photo ID and further details can be viewed at Voter photo ID (leeds.gov.uk). Polling officials may ask voters to briefly remove face coverings to verify identity. Privacy booths will be available, and voters can choose a male or female official to carry out the identity check.

Postal vote submission and replacements

Postal voters who prefer to hand in their ballot papers in person may do so only at a polling station or at the Electoral Services office located at Leeds Civic Hall, LS1 1UR. No other council offices will accept postal votes.

Voters who have not yet received their postal ballot pack are advised to contact the elections team urgently by calling 0113 222 4411 or emailing electors@leeds.gov.uk. Replacement packs can be issued up to 5pm on polling day.

Election process and results

The election will determine 36 councillors for Leeds City Council, with one councillor elected in each of the 33 wards. Additionally, vacancies in Adel and Wharfedale, Morley North, and Temple Newsam wards will be contested, where both the first and second placed candidates will secure seats.

Counting will take place on Friday 8 May at the John Charles Centre for Sport, with results published on the council’s website and their X account @LeedsCC_News.

Voters are reminded that “Your vote is yours alone” and are advised to follow national guidance to ensure the integrity of the process. Support is available by calling 0800 555 111 or contacting Crimestoppers anonymously via crimestoppers-uk.org.
