Significance for Leeds and the tournament

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is held biennially, with the 2026 edition being the largest to date. Early matches have attracted significant crowds, including a sell-out of 18,814 at Edgbaston Stadium for India vs Pakistan. Overall ticket sales across all venues have surpassed 200,000.

Leeds’s involvement highlights its status as a major sporting city, following the announcement that the 2027 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift Grand Départ will also take place in the city. Leeds previously hosted the men’s Tour de France Grand Départ in 2014, which drew around 230,000 spectators to the city centre and millions more along the Yorkshire route, generating an economic boost of over £100 million for the region.

Other notable sporting events hosted by Leeds in recent years include IRONMAN Leeds, the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, and the 2022 Rugby League World Cup.
