Final Year Report Released on Leeds Neighbourhood Matching Project
June 17, 2026Voluntary Action Leeds publishes evaluation of volunteer-led initiative
Voluntary Action Leeds (VAL) has published a new report assessing the third and final year of the Neighbourhood Matching Project, a volunteer-led programme operating across various areas of Leeds. The report highlights the outcomes of the project, which aims to empower local volunteers to lead and develop community initiatives.
Overview of the Neighbourhood Matching Project
The Neighbourhood Matching Project supports volunteer groups by providing funding linked to volunteer hours. For every hour a volunteer contributes to their project, the group receives £10 in funding. This financial support allows volunteers to enhance their projects in ways they consider most beneficial, such as purchasing equipment, printing promotional materials, or hiring venues.
Funding for the programme was provided by Leeds City Council through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, with backing from the UK Government. It is managed under the Service Transformation, Adults and Health Directorate. The scheme’s objective is to enable volunteers to use their expertise and experience to create sustainable improvements within their communities.
Support and Delivery
Volunteer groups participating in the project receive support from organisations within the Leeds Community Anchor Network. These anchor organisations assist volunteer groups in their local areas, helping to facilitate the delivery and development of community projects.
Key Findings and Access to the Report
The latest report evaluates the final year of the Neighbourhood Matching Project, outlining key successes and lessons learned that may inform future community initiatives. It also features quotes from volunteers and local organisations involved in the project, providing insight into the experiences of those engaged.
