Winger expresses optimism ahead of new campaign

Guiseley AFC have confirmed the extension of winger Amir Berchil’s contract for the 2026/27 season. The 26-year-old, who joined the club last year, has welcomed the decision and spoken positively about the squad and management as the team prepares for pre-season training.

Contract extension agreed

Berchil’s contract option was taken up by Guiseley, securing his services for another season at Nethermoor. Speaking from Portugal, where he was on holiday, Berchil expressed enthusiasm about returning to training and working under manager Ian Richards.

“Ian is an amazing gaffer and such a nice man. It is good to work with him and I am very happy to play for him and listen to him again in the new season,” Berchil said.

He added that he has been maintaining his fitness in preparation for the upcoming season and is eager to build on last year’s performances.

Looking ahead to the new season

Reflecting on the previous campaign, Berchil acknowledged that there were times when he felt unable to fully express himself on the pitch. He is hopeful that the team will improve collectively and has set ambitious targets for the season.

He described the current squad as “amazing” and believes they should aim for at least a place in the play-offs.
Berchil also suggested the team could challenge for the league title.

He said the decision to remain at Guiseley was straightforward, especially given the management’s clear interest in retaining him early on.

Berchil joined Guiseley from Emley during the 2025 close season. In the 2025/26 campaign, he made 38 appearances and scored one goal. His performances earned him the club’s Sponsors’ Player of the Season award.

Known for his pace and skill on the wing, Berchil has been a key figure in Guiseley’s frontline. Originally from London, his football journey in Yorkshire includes spells at Nostell Miners Welfare, Yorkshire Amateurs, Albion Sports, Thackley, and North Ferriby. He has also been associated with Chelsea and Watford during his youth.
