New Learn-to-Ride Bike Park Opens at Temple Newsam

A new bike park designed to help children learn to ride and develop their cycling skills has opened at Temple Newsam’s golf club in Leeds. The facility is the first of its kind in the city and features elements that replicate real road conditions, offering a safe environment for young riders to gain confidence and improve their ability to interpret traffic signs.
Features of the Bike Park
- Traffic lights and give way lines to simulate road layouts
- A level crossing
- A stone hump bridge modelled on the real stone bridge within Temple Newsam’s grounds
The bike park is designed to accommodate children of all ages and abilities, providing a range of challenges to enhance their riding skills in a controlled setting.
Additional Facilities at Temple Newsam
Alongside the bike park, a new adventure playground has been created. The playground includes:
- A toddler sandpit
- An adventure trail
- A climbing forest
These features aim to offer engaging play opportunities for children across different age groups and abilities.
To support local wildlife and biodiversity, new wildflower meadows have been established near the play area, along with additional tree and bush planting.
Community Café and Golf Facilities
The updates to the golf and activity park also include a new community café serving light refreshments. The café has a patio area overlooking the grounds, providing a space for visitors to relax.
Temple Newsam golf club offers two nine-hole courses set within the historic parkland. The area connects to walking routes, open parkland, and woodland paths, making it a versatile location for outdoor activities.
Local Council Comments
Councillor James Gibson, Leeds City Council’s executive member for environment, commented on the new facilities, highlighting their potential to provide a family-friendly experience and promote community engagement. He noted the bike park’s role in helping children learn about traffic signs and develop cycling skills, and praised the playground and café as valuable additions to the site.
Temple Newsam also features other attractions such as a home farm and a play barn, contributing to its appeal as a destination for families.
