July 9, 2026Community honours Megan Suckling’s contribution to student wellbeing
The family of Megan Suckling, a member of Leeds University Union (LUU), has announced plans to raise £20,000 in her memory. Megan, who passed away suddenly earlier this year, was known for her dedication to supporting student mental health and wellbeing.
Megan’s Role and Contributions
Megan was the founder and a committee member of the Suicide Support and Awareness for Everyone (SSAFE) Society at Leeds University Union. Established during the 2023/24 academic year, SSAFE offers support through initiatives such as free weekly creative arts and crafts events and relaxed tea and talk sessions. These activities aimed to provide a safe and supportive environment for students facing mental health challenges.
In addition to her work with SSAFE, Megan also served as a Wellbeing Event Steward at Leeds University Union in 2023/24, further demonstrating her commitment to student welfare.
