March 2, 2026Opportunity to Lead During Period of Growth and Governance Reform
Leeds Children’s Charity, based at Lineham Farm, has announced it is recruiting a new Chair of Trustees to guide the organisation through a significant phase of development and governance enhancement. The charity supports children in Leeds who face poverty, trauma, or other disadvantages.
Governance Review and Strategic Changes
The charity recently completed a comprehensive governance review, resulting in the introduction of new Trustee roles aimed at strengthening the board’s resilience and strategic oversight. These changes are intended to:
- Strengthen board governance and leadership
- Support financial sustainability
- Improve safeguarding and risk oversight
- Expand support for disadvantaged children across Leeds
In addition to governance reforms, Leeds Children’s Charity is undergoing an organisational rebrand and has invested in new fundraising and engagement positions to broaden its impact.
Role of the New Chair of Trustees
The incoming Chair will have a central role in shaping the charity’s strategy, supporting the Chief Executive, and ensuring the continuation of safe, high-quality outdoor experiences at Lineham Farm. The board is seeking a leader who is inclusive, collaborative, and strategic, with a strong commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people.
The charity emphasises its dedication to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) at board level, aiming for governance that reflects and champions the diverse communities it serves in Leeds.
Impact and Mission
Each year, Leeds Children’s Charity provides residential breaks, outdoor learning, and respite experiences to thousands of children, many of whom face significant challenges including poverty and social isolation. Effective governance and leadership are viewed as essential to sustaining and expanding this work.
Chief Executive Sharon Milner commented on the recruitment:
“We look ahead with confidence and optimism, united by a shared purpose: to give more children the chance to learn, grow and thrive. If you share our commitment to inclusive leadership and creating lasting positive change, we would be delighted to hear from you.”
