Leeds Community Groups Awarded Suicide Prevention Grants

New funding supports local suicide prevention initiatives

Leeds Community Foundation has allocated over £150,000 in grants to support suicide prevention work across the city. The funding, awarded in partnership with Leeds City Council’s Public Health team, will be shared among eight community organisations. These groups will deliver activities aimed at reducing suicide risk by fostering social connection, hope, and wellbeing.

Grant recipients and funding breakdown

The Suicide Prevention Grants programme has awarded six large grants and two small grants to the following organisations:

  • Large grants: Advonet, BARCA Leeds, GIPSIL, LS14 Trust, TransLeeds, Women’s Counselling and Therapy Service
  • Small grants: Battle Scars, Cloth Cat Studios Ltd

Target groups and project activities

The funded projects are tailored to support diverse groups within the Leeds community, including young men, women aged 40 to 65, autistic individuals, people with experience of homelessness, LGBTQIA+ people, and refugees and asylum seekers. Activities planned include:

  • School sessions addressing topics such as masculinity, men and emotions, and healthy relationships
  • Development of a triage-style support pathway to connect individuals with appropriate services in a timely manner
  • Community-led wellbeing and social activities available in hybrid and online formats
  • A music-based community involvement project offering opportunities to play, repair, and recycle musical equipment

Programme impact since 2018

Since its inception in 2018, the Suicide Prevention Grants programme has awarded 45 grants totalling nearly £875,000. These funds have supported activities involving more than 4,750 participants, contributing to efforts to reduce suicide risk in Leeds.
