New opportunity for local people with experience of Leeds Teaching Hospitals

Leeds Hospitals Charity has announced a volunteer opportunity for individuals who have accessed services at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. The charity is inviting members of the public to join its new Community Voices panel, which aims to involve patients and the public in decisions about grant funding and medical research.

Purpose of the Community Voices Panel

The panel will focus on patient and public involvement, engagement, and participation (PPIEP) in research. This approach helps ensure that medical research addresses outcomes that matter most to patients and the wider community. By involving people with lived experience, research can be shaped collaboratively, making it more relevant and comprehensive.

Co-production, where patients and researchers work together as equals, is a key element of this initiative. It allows for the identification and prioritisation of research questions that might otherwise be overlooked by researchers alone.

Volunteer Role Details

  • Role: Community Voices Panel Volunteer
  • Volunteer Manager: Grants Manager
  • Location: Online

Volunteers will have the opportunity to contribute their perspectives and experiences to help guide decisions about where grant funding is allocated and the direction of medical research at Leeds Teaching Hospitals.

How to Get Involved

Those interested in joining the Community Voices panel are encouraged to consider their own experience of accessing Leeds Teaching Hospitals and their willingness to participate in online discussions and decision-making processes.

This initiative reflects a growing emphasis on involving patients and the public in healthcare research to improve outcomes and ensure that research priorities align with the needs of the community.
