Leeds University Union Hosts Winter Graduation Celebrations

Students and families gather to mark academic achievements

Leeds University Union (LUU) has organised a series of events and services to accompany the winter graduation ceremonies, providing students with opportunities to celebrate their accomplishments in the Union Building.

Facilities and activities available during graduation period

Throughout the graduation period, LUU is offering a variety of amenities and activities designed to enhance the experience for graduates and their guests.

• Old Bar: The Union’s pub will be open from 11am, serving drinks including alcohol. It will also be live streaming all graduations and sporting events to enable extended family and friends to watch remotely.
• Terrace: Graduates can enjoy a selection of drinks including bottles of fizz with options ranging from Frizzante (£19), Prosecco or Sparkling Rosé (£20), to Champagne (£50). Alcohol-free options are also available. Seasonal drinks such as hot chocolate and mulled wine will be served in the Terrace Tent.
• Photobooth and Photo Opportunities: A photobooth with a customised Class of 2025 backdrop is available on the Terrace. Additional photo spots have been set up around the Union Building, including opportunities to take pictures with George the Gryphon, the Union’s mascot.
• Gear Shop: Official University of Leeds merchandise is on sale, including hoodies, sweatshirts, scarves, and soft toys such as the Toffee Bear. An exclusive offer allows customers spending £40 or more to receive a free tote bag. This offer is valid in-store from 12 to 19 December 2025, while stocks last.
• Union Shop: A variety of cards, postcards, backpacks, and smaller memorabilia are available for purchase to commemorate students’ time at university.
• Common Ground Coffee Shop: Offers a range of cakes, teas, and organic tea selections for visitors.
• Co-op: Provides a selection of flowers and bouquets for graduation photographs, along with chocolates and prosecco for purchase.
• Union Square Retailers: Food options include Mediterranean dishes at Philapita, baked goods from Cooplands, Indian cuisine at Tikka Nation, Asian-inspired poke bowls at Waki Maki, and bubble tea at Pearls.

These services aim to provide a comprehensive celebration environment for graduates and their families during the winter graduation period at Leeds University.
