Funding aims to support grassroots LGBT+ physical activity projects

A new funding opportunity has opened for grassroots LGBT+ sports and physical activity organisations across the UK. The LGBT+ Fund: Get Active Fund is offering grants to community-based groups to help increase participation and access to physical activities for LGBT+ individuals, particularly those facing additional barriers.

About the Fund

The fund is a partnership between the LGBT+ Fund, powered by Consortium, and the London Marathon Foundation. It is overseen by a steering group with expertise in LGBT+ sports and physical activity communities.

The primary objective of the fund is to support grassroots organisations that are often under-recognised by other funding initiatives. It aims to improve access to physical activity for LGBT+ people, acknowledging that social and systemic barriers can limit participation, even in settings intended to be inclusive.

Eligible Activities

For the purposes of the fund, physical activity is defined as activities that explicitly promote increased physical movement and wellbeing. Examples of eligible activities include:

  • Hiking
  • Skateboarding
  • Football
  • Ballroom and vogue dancing
  • Gardening
  • Frisbee
  • Circus skills
