New Weekly Community Session Opens at Woodhouse Centre
October 6, 2026Angels of Freedom introduces Open Door sessions to foster local connections
Angels of Freedom has launched a new weekly Open Door session at its Angels Hub, located within Woodhouse Community Centre. The initiative aims to provide a relaxed and inclusive environment where local residents can meet, build friendships, and learn about the organisation’s activities and volunteering opportunities.
The first Open Door session took place recently, welcoming four visitors, including a first-time attendee. The sessions are designed to encourage informal social interaction and community support, recognising that meaningful connections often begin with simple conversations.
Details of the Open Door sessions
- Location: Angels Hub, Woodhouse Community Centre, Leeds
- Schedule: Weekly, alternating between Wednesdays and Thursdays
- Time: 11.00am to 4.30pm
- Cost: Free to attend
- Next session: Wednesday, 7 October
Visitors attending the Wednesday sessions around lunchtime are encouraged to support the SEVA Pay As You Can Café, also based at Woodhouse Community Centre. The café offers affordable meals and serves as another community gathering point.
Purpose and community impact
Rob Wilson, Founder and Director of Angels of Freedom, highlighted the importance of informal community engagement, stating that “some of the most important community work doesn’t happen during organised activities or events. It starts with a conversation over a brew, a new friendship, and someone realising they’re not alone.”
The Open Door sessions form part of Angels of Freedom’s ongoing efforts to tackle social isolation, improve wellbeing, and create opportunities for connection within a safe and welcoming setting.
