Ralph’s Toddle Supports Brother After Brain Haemorrhage

On Saturday 31 October, three-year-old Ralph will join other toddlers and their families for a 1km walk in fancy dress at Roundhay Park. The event, known as the Children’s Toddle, aims to raise funds for Leeds Children’s Hospital. For Ralph’s family, the walk holds particular significance as they support the hospital that treated his older brother, Reggie.
Reggie’s sudden illness and diagnosis
On 9 September 2025, five-year-old Reggie experienced a sudden and serious health emergency. After attending school and on his way to a swimming lesson, he complained of neck pain and began vomiting. His mother, Georgia, took him to the Accident & Emergency department where scans revealed bleeding on his brain.
Within 20 minutes of arriving at the hospital, Reggie underwent an MRI scan and was diagnosed with a brain haemorrhage caused by a ruptured arteriovenous malformation (AVM). This condition involves an abnormal connection between arteries and veins in the brain, which can lead to bleeding.
Medical response and ongoing care
Reggie was admitted to the hospital and received urgent medical care. The swift diagnosis and treatment were critical in managing his condition. The family’s experience highlights the importance of rapid access to specialist paediatric care.
