October 20, 2026A free seminar aimed at Yorkshire charity leaders and senior third sector professionals will provide practical advice on managing significant risks within the charity sector. The event is scheduled for Tuesday 10th November at Hazlewood Castle and will run from 10am to 1pm.
Event Overview
The seminar, titled Managing Risk within the Charity Sector, will bring together experts specialising in investment, finance, employment law, and insurance. It aims to explore the risks charities face and offer guidance on how these can be mitigated effectively.
This event follows a previous successful charity seminar organised by LCF Law, which covered topics including people management, property, investment, cash flow, and fundraising risks.
Key Topics and Speakers
The seminar will focus on four main areas of risk impacting charities:
- Investment Risk: Matthew Wells, Partner in Investment Management at Evelyn Partners, will discuss the risks associated with lacking a robust investment strategy and explain how a clear strategy can support a charity’s long-term financial sustainability.
- Financial Governance: Adrian Rodaway, Senior Partner and Chartered Accountant at HPH Chartered Accountants, will highlight the role of strong financial governance in building trust, enhancing accountability, and reducing risk.
- Employment Issues: James Austin, Partner and employment lawyer at LCF Law, will provide practical advice on reducing the risk of successful tribunal claims, particularly in relation to disciplinary procedures.
- Cyber Risk: Chris Barritt and Ryan Parker, Branch Directors at insurance brokers PIB, will address the increasing cyber threats facing charities and suggest measures to safeguard organisations in a digital environment.
Importance of Risk Management in Charities
James Austin emphasised the critical nature of risk management for charities, stating that errors in financial decisions, governance, employment matters, or cyber security can have significant consequences. He noted the importance for trustees and senior staff to understand practical steps to manage these risks effectively.
The seminar is designed to offer accessible guidance that charities can implement within their organisations, as well as providing an opportunity for attendees to share experiences and learn from peers in the sector.
